52' 2010 Shannon

ROAM's interior is one of the defining features of the Shannon 52 RDP design. Rather than a conventional deep-cabin offshore layout, ROAM uses a raised-deck pilothouse arrangement that brings light, visibility, and all-weather function into the center of the yacht. The layout combines a pilothouse saloon, inside helm station, dedicated navigation station, passageway galley, three private staterooms, two heads with stall showers, and a full-beam aft master suite.

Entering from the cockpit, the companionway leads directly into the raised pilothouse saloon. This space is bright, practical, and highly usable underway. The port side features an L-shaped settee and dining table, while the starboard side has a full-length settee and the interior helm station. The raised position gives excellent visibility through the pilothouse windows, making the saloon useful not only at anchor but also during watchkeeping and passagemaking.

Aft and slightly lower to starboard is the dedicated navigation center. This area includes a full-sized chart table, electronics, communications equipment, electrical panels, and a proper seated work position. It is an excellent passage-planning station and gives the watchstander access to vessel systems without interrupting the galley or saloon.

The passageway galley is located aft to port and is arranged for safe offshore use. With excellent bracing, extensive storage, olive wood countertops, modern refrigeration, propane cooking, and a practical connection between the saloon and aft master suite, the galley is well suited to extended cruising.

The aft master stateroom is a major strength of the design. It offers a king/queen-size semi-island berth, generous storage, multiple lockers and drawers, opening ports, and an ensuite head with stall shower. Forward, ROAM has a full-beam VIP cabin and a port guest cabin with upper and lower berths. The port guest cabin is especially useful offshore because it functions as a proper sea berth while underway, isolated from the noise and activity of the watch in the cockpit and pilothouse.

MAIN SALOON

The main saloon aboard ROAM is the raised pilothouse saloon, and it is central to the yacht's appeal. This is a bright, practical, protected living and watchkeeping space with true visibility. The port settee and dining table provide a comfortable gathering area, while the starboard settee and inside helm create a second usable seating and control area. Unlike many offshore yachts where the saloon is deep below the waterline, ROAM's pilothouse saloon feels connected to the outside world.

GUEST CABIN (PORT)

The port guest cabin is located forward of the saloon and provides upper and lower berths. This cabin is well suited for guests, children, or offshore crew and is particularly valuable underway. Because it is positioned forward and below, away from the cockpit and pilothouse watchkeeping areas, it can function as a quiet sea berth for off-watch crew, isolated from much of the noise and activity of the active watch.

ROAM’s passageway galley is arranged to port between the pilothouse saloon and the aft master suite. It is secure underway, well braced, and equipped for extended cruising. The 2019 refit brought major galley upgrades, including new Isotherm refrigerator/freezer units, olive wood countertops, and a Furrion dishwasher. The dishwasher is a standout feature for liveaboard and long-range cruising use, especially when paired with ROAM’s high-output Spectra Catalina 300 watermaker.

NAVIGATION STATION

The dedicated navigation center is located aft and to starboard of the pilothouse saloon. It provides a full-size chart table, vessel electrical panels, electronics, communications equipment, and a proper seated work area. It is positioned close to the pilothouse and cockpit, making it practical for passagemaking and systems management.

PILOTHOUSE

The pilothouse helm is one of ROAM’s most important features. It allows the watch stander to steer, navigate, and manage the vessel from a protected interior station with excellent visibility. This is a major advantage for cold weather, rain, night watches, or long offshore passages.

HULL

ROAM is built as a serious offshore displacement monohull with FRP composite construction. Shannon’s construction approach emphasized strength, durability, and long-term voyaging utility, with hand-laid fiberglass, vinylester resin, biaxial laminates, Kevlar hybrid reinforcement, internal ballast, and a skeg-supported rudder. The shoal-draft keel with retractable centerboard gives the yacht shallow-water access while retaining improved windward ability when the board is lowered.

ENGINE AND MECHANICAL

ROAM’s twin diesel installation is one of the strongest differentiators of the Shannon 52 RDP. Twin Yanmar 75 HP engines provide redundancy, maneuverability, and confidence in close quarters, currents, canals, and offshore situations. With bow thruster support, cockpit and pilothouse controls, and Gori folding propellers with Overdrive, ROAM is notably easier to handle than many single-engine offshore sailing yachts of similar size. The Gori Overdrive feature allows ROAM to run near hull speed on a single engine at low RPM, improving comfort, efficiency, range, and mechanical redundancy on long motoring passages or ICW transits.
