Description
F/V THERESA MARIE93.3-Foot Steel Cannery Tender

Petersburg, Alaska | NEW Asking Price: $940,000, WAS $1,250,000

F/V THERESA MARIE is a proven Alaska commercial vessel offering the capacity, equipment, and durability required for demanding tender operations. With approximately 230,000 pounds of reported salmon capacity, a 50-ton refrigerated seawater system, extensive hydraulic deck machinery, and nearly 32,000 gallons of fuel storage, she presents a substantial operating platform at a competitive asking price.

Originally constructed for the Bering Sea king crab fishery, THERESA MARIE was later developed into a high-capacity cannery tender. Her commercial pedigree distinguishes her from recreational vessels adapted for industrial service or partially completed conversion projects.

Marine Power & Equipment of Seattle built the vessel with an all-welded steel hull. In 1991, Duwamish Shipyard completed significant modifications that included the addition of eight-foot sponsons and a ten-foot extension aft of the rudder. These improvements produced the vessel’s present dimensions of 93.3 feet overall and 30.8 feet of beam while increasing stability, deck area, and carrying capability.

Fish Handling and Refrigeration

THERESA MARIE is arranged for efficient handling, chilling, and transportation of large quantities of fish.

Her two fish holds are protected with polyurea coatings and served by a self-contained IMS refrigerated seawater system rated at 50 tons. Reported salmon carrying capacity is approximately 230,000 pounds.

The fish-handling package includes:

  • Trans Vac fish pump powered by a 40 HP electric motor

  • Aluminum dewatering box

  • Aluminum sorting table

  • Weight box and money-fish boxes

  • Two six-inch RSW circulation pumps

  • Two polyurea-coated fish holds

  • IMS 50-ton RSW refrigeration plant

This integrated system provides the equipment needed to receive, process, chill, and store a substantial commercial catch.

Main Engine and Propulsion

Propulsion is supplied by a Detroit Diesel 16V-149 producing 940 horsepower. The indicated engine meter shows approximately 8,661 hours, reportedly accumulated since the engine was installed new in 2001.

Power is transmitted through a Twin Disc MG 5301 deep-case marine gear with a 6:1 reduction ratio. The driveline includes a six-inch propeller shaft supported by four Cooper bearings and fitted with a dripless shaft seal.

Propulsion equipment includes:

  • Detroit Diesel 16V-149 main engine

  • Rated output of 940 HP

  • Approximately 8,661 indicated operating hours

  • Mathers Micro-Commander engine controls

  • Twin Disc MG 5301 transmission

  • 6:1 reduction gear

  • Six-inch propeller shaft

  • Four Cooper shaft bearings

  • Structural keel-cooling system

  • Dripless shaft seal

  • Dual parallel Racor fuel filters

  • Westfalia fuel-oil centrifuge

  • Two metered fuel-transfer pumps

  • 78-by-63-inch, four-blade stainless-steel propeller

  • 90-by-47-inch steel rudder

  • Four-inch stainless-steel rudder stock

The machinery package reflects the vessel’s original commercial purpose and is designed around reliability, serviceability, and sustained operation under load.

Generator and Electrical Systems

THERESA MARIE carries substantial onboard generating capacity to operate her refrigeration plant, hydraulic machinery, fish-handling systems, accommodations, and other commercial equipment.

Primary electrical power is provided by a Detroit Diesel Series 50 generator rated at 200 kW. A Detroit Diesel 4-71 serves as the auxiliary generator. Both units are keel cooled and equipped with dry, insulated exhaust systems.

The vessel’s electrical system is configured for 208-volt, three-phase service and includes clearly identified distribution panels, individual circuit protection, analog voltage and amperage gauges, and marine-grade wiring.

Additional electrical equipment includes:

  • Detroit Diesel Series 50, 200 kW generator

  • Detroit Diesel 4-71 auxiliary generator

  • Dedicated 8D generator-starting batteries

  • Separate electronics battery bank

  • Marine battery-charging equipment

  • Blue Sea circuit protection

  • Permanently wired shore-power connection

  • Labeled power-distribution panels

Fuel, Water, and Tankage

Extended operating range is supported by nearly 32,000 gallons of reported diesel capacity. Freshwater storage is approximately 3,497 gallons.

The vessel also has multiple integral tanks designated for lubricating oil, waste oil, and hydraulic fluid. This extensive tankage supports longer commercial assignments and reduces dependence on frequent shoreside servicing.

Deck Arrangement and Hydraulic Equipment

The working deck is configured around commercial fish-handling and lifting operations. Heavy steel construction, protective bulwarks, generous freeing ports, and planked surfaces around the principal hatches create a practical environment for demanding service.

A custom-built, 30-foot North American hydraulic knuckle-boom crane is installed on the port side. It is equipped with a Rotzler No. 3 winch carrying approximately 100 feet of half-inch galvanized wire. Crane controls are available from both the main deck and the starboard side of the 01 deck.

The starboard picking boom is fabricated from six-inch Schedule 80 pipe. Its Rotzler No. 2 winch carries approximately 120 feet of half-inch Spectra line.

Additional deck machinery and equipment include:

  • Nordic hydraulic anchor winch

  • Horizontal capstan with manual brake

  • Two Vickers triple-cartridge hydraulic pumps

  • 75 HP and 100 HP electric hydraulic motors

  • Yaquina Boat line hauler

  • Steel crab davit

  • Crab-handling equipment

  • Stainless-steel pot guard at the hauling station

  • Two Ingersoll Rand service-air compressors

  • Twenty freeing ports

  • Heavy steel hull guards and bulwarks

  • Planked work surfaces surrounding the primary deck hatches

Hull and Structural Construction

THERESA MARIE has an all-welded mild-steel hull and steel superstructure topped by an aluminum pilothouse.

Her hull incorporates a raked stem, V-shaped entry, moderate flare, pronounced sheer, single hard chine, and squared stern. Six transverse watertight bulkheads extend upward to the main deck, dividing the hull into separate compartments.

Reported structural specifications include:

  • 3/8-inch steel plating on the hull sides and bottom

  • 1/4-inch steel deck plating

  • Deep transverse frames spaced on 48-inch centers

  • Longitudinal framing spaced on 20-inch centers

  • Ten-inch-by-one-inch keel shoe

  • Six-inch half-pipe guards along the sheer

  • Seven 24-inch cast-steel cleats

  • Heavy commercial ring chocks

  • Reinforced steel bulwarks

The result is a heavily constructed commercial hull designed to carry substantial loads and operate in the demanding waters of Alaska.

Wheelhouse and Electronics

The wheelhouse has a centerline primary helm with additional wing stations to port and starboard, providing improved visibility and control during docking and close-quarters tender operations.

Navigation, communications, and monitoring equipment includes:

Commercial Opportunity

THERESA MARIE combines the qualities most important to a serious tender operator: robust steel construction, large fish-carrying capacity, industrial refrigeration, extensive fuel storage, powerful generating equipment, hydraulic deck machinery, and accommodations for a full working crew.

Reproducing a vessel of this size and capability would require significant cost, planning, and construction time. At the revised asking price of $940,000, THERESA MARIE deserves consideration from processors, commercial fishing companies, established tender operators, and buyers seeking a capable multipurpose platform for Alaska service.
