Additional Information

The current owner is a boat builder, and worked for many years for Beneteau's Canadian dealership as head of commissioning. Prior to "At Last" being acquired by him, there was a report of a grounding. There was minor damage at the grid area. The owners statement regarding this contact with the bottom is noted here;

"Hi Alan,

As per our conversation i am following up on your request for additional information on the repairs to my boat.

As you know I am a retired maintenance and repair aircraft mechanic and have been working for a Beneteau dealer since 2005.

I spent my whole career repairing and maintaining aircrafts ,fiberglass propellers, and boats, i am as well a boat builder.

I built 3 boats, the latest one being a 45’ offshore catamaran that i still own.

As most aircraft technician I am driven by procedures and manufacturer's recommendations.

I consider myself a meticulous and serious trades person.

I work with west system epoxy resins and products and follow their boat construction and repair technical instructions.

The repairs done to my Beneteau exceed the industry standards in the materials and techniques applied.

As a Beneteau rep i have witnessed many such repairs being undertaken in our shop by our technicians.

The grid pan installed by Beneteau when they build the boats is bonded to the inside of the hull and adds rigidity to the hull.

When such built boats run aground the hull flexes and the grid pan absorbs the stresses.

Grid pans often show cracks following such an event.

I believe whoever made the decision to not repair the boat was either misinformed or could not find knowledgeable technicians to carry out the repairs.

Such repairs are not overly expensive in material especially considering the value of such a vessel, and if no hull delamination is present can be done without extensive manpower.

The average value for such a repair as per the yard owner/ manager at the dealership ranges between 10 to 40 thousand dollars

When i saw the boat for the first time i inspected it checked it for delamination and water ingress and decided to buy it and repair the grid pan.

The grid pan had 8 cracks in it

The cracks were opposite each other consequent with a longitudinal collision.

They ranged from 2-3 inches to 10-12 inches and were on the inboard side and top skins of the grid pan only.

The cracks were ground out to a 4:1 ratio relative to the thickness of the damaged skin and repaired using multiple layers of biaxial tape to restore the initial material thickness using west system 5:1 epoxy resin.

The repairs were then faired and the whole area sealed with a barrier coat and gelcoat applied to the whole surface.

In addition to the crack repairs the grid pan was taped to the hull in a few locations.

I have attached a few pictures of the damaged areas before, during and after the repairs.

My wife and I bought this boat to take to France and live on it seasonally. Then our plans changed and we decided to sell it.

All the work done on this boat was done for our benefit and to the best of my knowledge following Gougeon brothers West system guidelines.

Hope this helps

Michael"

Surveyor Steven Berlin was commissioned in spring of 2026 to undertake a survey of the vessel. This full survey is available upon request along with accompanying photos. The text of the survey regarding this area where the repair was undertaken is as follows;

"Based on a full interior and a full exterior inspection the structural integrity of the vessel appears sound. Where accessible for inspection, stringers, engine beds, bulkheads and partitions, were all found secured and all appeared to be in good condition showing no evidence of stress, cracks or flexing and there was no evidence of any rot detected. The center “Grid” from the Mast Foot to the forward end of the engine compartment was previously repaired. When inspected at this time the repair work was found to be holding up and showed no evidence of any damages, stress or cracks and the repair work appears to have been completed with a heavier lay up schedule than the original build. The accessible Keel Bolts all appeared to be secured and in good condition. The hull sides were found in good overall condition with no evidence of any weaknesses detected. The bottom was sounded with a phenolic style hammer and was found in good condition with no evidence of any major weaknesses. There were no signs of blisters and no evidence of any delamination noted on the bottom surface. There was one small area on the starboard bow bottom just forward of the Bow Thruster tube where an apparent air void was detected in the bottom. No repair work is warranted at this time however the noted area should be checked at times of future haul outs to assure the area has not spread. The keel was found in good condition and showed no evidence of any hard groundings and showed no evidence of any separation from the hull bottom. The accessible Keel Bolts were found in good condition and showed no evidence of corrosion or damages.

The bottom paint was found in acceptable condition. Sacrificial zincs were found in acceptable condition.

The deck areas, main deck and the cockpit deck were found in good condition with no evidence of any weaknesses noted. The teak planked cockpit decking was found maintained and in acceptable condition. There was no evidence of any deck leaks noted and where accessible for inspection the deck/hull joint was found secured and in good condition. Deck drain hoses and related fittings were found in acceptable condition.

The cabin structure was found in good condition with no evidence of any weaknesses noted.

There was no evidence of any leaks noted from any of the cabin windows, the overhead hatches or from the cabin door area."
