A True Exploration Vessel with Proven Pedigree
Originally launched in 1982 as a North Atlantic scallop dragger, theAnne S. Piercewas purpose-built to withstand the brutal conditions of commercial fishing in some of the harshest waters on earth. Her robust construction and seaworthy design laid the foundation for her remarkable transformation.
Following her commercial career, she was repurposed by Memorial University in Newfoundland as a research and training vessel, where she served for years in the demanding North Atlantic.
Between 2019 and 2021, the vessel underwent an extensive refit at Glovertown Shipyard in Newfoundland, where she was carefully reimagined into a modern expedition yacht. Every detail of the refit was considered to enhance comfort, safety, and functionality while honoring her rugged origins.
Today,Anne S. Piercestands as a 500+ ton exploration yacht, uniquely blending durability and charm. Designed to sidle up alongside icebergs as confidently as she navigates tropical seas, she is equipped with features such as:
A failure-proof wood stove for warmth in the harshest climates
Uncomplicated, reliable electronics
Spacious, comfortable living arrangements suited for long-range expeditions
Her current owner has transformed her into a stunning exploration platform—a vessel equally at home in icy northern latitudes as in remote island chains.
- Built as a Scallop Dragger, by Deep Sea Trawlers in Nova Scotia Canada at the Lunenberg Shipyard, for Clearwater Fish Company
- Glovertown shipyard in Canada remanufactured her from 2019 to 2021, converting her to an Expedition Yacht
Spacious accommodations and comfortable common areas
Robust displacement and hull form designed for icy waters
Ready for long-range exploration with fuel-efficient operation
Electronics designed for reliability
North American steel was used in the original hull construction (1982), givingAnne S. Piercea level of strength and resilience unmatched by modern lightweight alternatives.
Between 2019–2021, all systems were either replaced with new North American components or completely rebuilt, ensuring reliability and serviceability worldwide.
The 1982 commercial-grade hull provided the perfect foundation to remanufacture the vessel with modern technology, while retaining the durability of heavier steel and proven design.
In contrast, many new builds rely on lighter steel and higher levels of computerization — advances that can sometimes reduce dependability in remote or heavy-sea conditions.
Anne S. Piercehas been thoughtfully engineered with the philosophy that simplicity and strength equate to reliability at sea, making her a safe and trustworthy platform for true expedition cruising.
