ROULEAU II’s interior is finished in solid and laminated light maple wood with a white laminate overhead. The sole is very durable faux teak and black with locking floor boards. Cabin doors are arched and paneled. “Lift off” hinges allow easy door removal. Ovearhead spotlights are wall-switched and reading lights are located at each berth. Interior lighting has been upgraded to LEDs. There are roll up Oceanair blinds for the fixed portlights and insulated interior, clear covers for deck hatches and salon windows to minimize condensation. The interior shows no evidence of leaks around the hatches and portlights. In fact, the interior shows very little wear and tear for a boat of this vintage. A hydronic diesel heating system has radiators with individual fan controls in each stateroom and the salon.
Starting all the way forward and aft of the bow locker, is a sail locker. This space is finished in white laminate with select wood trim. Access to the bow thruster motor, tunnel, and batteries is through a hatch in the forward bulkhead. A wired windlass remote is mounted on the forward bulkhead. Copious storage for spares and other gear and room for sails is found in top-opening bins and storage cabinets with sliding doors. This sail locker is accessed from a door in the foward stateroom or from deck through a large deck hatch. Running sails and other gear can be hoisted and stowed without dragging them through the interior.
Continuing aft, the owner’s stateroom features a pullman berth offset to starboard (dimensions: head 53”/135cm, foot 39”/100cm, length 78”/198cm) with wood laths below the mattress (new 2017) to minimize moisture. On the forward bulkhead is a Taylor's 4kw diesel heater (model 079DS). A drop-down panel at the head of the berth opens this owner’s cabin to the salon. There is a desk/workstation to port and, as usual on these vintage Garcia’s, lots of storage. On the overhead, there are three opening hatches that have plexiglass inserts for cold weather. There are two reading lights and a Caframo cabin fan over the berth.
Following the passageway aft and outboard is the head compartment with a manual Raritan marine toilet. A round stainless steel sink with single lever faucet is located in a curved vanity outboard/forward. A storage cabinet is outboard, below the deck edge and fitted with sliding doors. A wood-trimmed mirror is on the forward bulkhead.
Continuing aft, the linear galley has a deep top-loading fridge (Frigoboat 12v) with holding plate cooling, twin stainless-steel sinks with mixer valve and separate saltwater spigot fed from a foot pump, a Force 10 two burner stove/oven with cutting board cover and a Siemens microwave oven. There is ample storage outboard and under the counter and even more inboard in the seat back of the salon settee. Pantry storage is forward in the passageway. Dedicated cup and plate holders are inboard behind the settee back.
The salon features a slightly-rounded dinette that will comfortably accommodate six adults for dinner. The settee cushions are upholstered in burgundy-colored leather. Under the center line side of the settee is the service battery bank and more storage. The forward and outboard settee seats have bin storage below them. There are two deck hatches and one opening port light in the salon/galley and a Caframo fan in the salon.
The aft-facing navigation station includes a chart table with hinged chart drawer, a switch/breaker panel, tank gauges, VHF and SSB controls, a 9” chart/radar screen, auto pilot control, computer screen, battery monitor, and inverter control. And again, there is more storage outboard and under the chart table.
Located immediately to port of the companionway is the shower, where one can quickly remove and hang wet foul weather gear. This space is finished in white laminate for easy cleaning and water resistance. A removable teak grate covers the shower pan. An adjustable nozzle bar, spray head, and single lever mixer allow one to shower standing up or seated on a teak bench. A wet gear hanging locker is forward and outboard. The opening cabin-side port allows light and ventilation.
The aft port stateroom has a double berth (dimensions: head 53”/135cm, foot 39”/100cm, length 78”/198cm) with storage below the berth. An upholstered dressing seat is forward/outboard, below a hanging locker. Removable panels inboard access the engine and genset. There are two opening ports with shades, a small opening port to the cockpit, and a fixed hull side port.
The aft starboard stateroom has a single berth (dimensions: head 32”/81cm, foot 14”/35cm, length 75”/190cm) with lee cloth and Naugahyde upholstered cushion. This space also doubles as a utility room. There is a small work bench and tool storage in a locker forward/outboard. The SOBA washing machine is inboard and aft in this cabin. The machinery space is accessed through removable panels inboard/below the cockpit. There are two opening ports and the ship’s AC breaker panel and ship/shore selector switch.

Any yacht designed and built for long distance cruising should have ample storage on deck and inside. ROULEAU II meets that demand. The overboard draining bow locker is accessed through two hinged and gasketed hatches just aft of the anchor windlass. The chain locker is all the way forward and storage for fenders, lines, buckets and other deck gear is right below the openings. Two propane tanks are located in a overboard draining compartment in the port bow locker. The most voluminous and impressive storage locker is the full-beam, full height stern locker located beneath hatches in the helm seat. Welded rungs allow one to climb down into this locker. An outboard storage bracket, emergency tiller, removable non-slip sole, and access to the steering system are located in this huge space.
A large, scoop stern should be high on any list of positive cruising yacht features. The Garcia Passoa has one of the best cruising sterns found on any boat. A sturdy fold-down dive ladder is offset to starboard and the stern anchor roller and large mooring cleat are to port. Port and starboard overboard draining lockers are ideal locations to store outboard gas, snorkel gear, trash and fishing gear. The life raft is located in a compartment behind the step up into the cockpit. The swim platform is ideal for outdoor showering, fish cleaning, or lounging at water level. A hot/cold freshwater shower is mounted in the transom.
A welded stern arch is another sensible design detail. ROULEAU II’s welded aluminum arch is common to the Garcia Passoa design. The arch is an ideal location for the wind generator and an antenna array which includes the Raymarine radome, 7 meter SSB whip, GPS, satphone and Iridium antennas. A large, hinged bow aft of the arch serves as a dinghy davit swinging the dinghy clear of the transom when lowered. A smaller hinged bow is forward to support the cockpit bimini.
ROULEAU II’s T-shaped cockpit is well-configured for sailing and lounging. A welded aluminum arch with mainsheet traveler on top locates the mainsheet well aft on the boom for sheeting efficiency while removing it from harm's way in the cockpit. This arch also features a rigid overhead section where the solar panels are mounted. Forward of this arch is a new dodger/sprayhood. The cockpit is also protected with an easily deployed bimini top and has a removable enclosure and sunshades. The cockpit seats and sole are clad with teak for comfort and helm seating is outboard and aft of the wheel. Visibility from the helm is excellent.
ROULEAU II’s deck has fresh cream-colored non-skid and double lifelines attached to sturdy stanchions and bow and stern rails with boarding gates, port and starboard. "Granny bars" at the mast give crew stability while reefing in a seaway. The six 13"/33cm cleats are welded to the aluminum deck and a beefy bollard is just forward of the windlass. There is also an oversize cleat just aft of the cockpit to assist in stern-to anchoring.

ROULEAU II is a staysail sloop with self-tacking staysail and full-battened main. Reefing is done from the cockpit and granny bars at the mast assist with attaching the reef tacks at the mast in a seaway. Headsail lead car adjustment is also done from the safety of the cockpit. The mast, standing rigging, running rigging, and working sails were replaced in 2026 by Eastport Spars & Rigging in Annapolis. Antal rope clutches are used throughout and there is a mix of Antal, Frederiksen and Ronstan blocks for handling the running rigging.
