The Hylas 63 occupies a rare space in the bluewater market: a hull with true production-yacht engineering, finished with the fit and detail of a custom build. Blue Star, built in 2013, is a standout example of the model. Her twin-helm center cockpit layout puts winches and lines within easy reach of the crew, gives the helmsman a clear sightline to the sails, and still leaves guests room to relax underway. Moving between the cockpit and aft deck is simple and secure, a detail that matters as much at the dock as it does offshore.
What sets Blue Star apart isn't just the model, it's the condition and the upgrades. A plumb bow, carbon rig, and teak decks give her a modern profile, while an all-new Furuno electronics suite brings her navigation package current. Recent work includes new canvas throughout, replaced running rigging, and freshly serviced bow and stern thruster batteries. This is a yacht that has been maintained for long-range cruising, not simply kept afloat. For an owner looking to cast off on serious passages without a list of deferred maintenance waiting on the other side, Blue Star is ready to go.
Propulsion & Handling
Blue Star is powered by a Yanmar 260 HP diesel fitted with electronic shift throttles for smooth, precise maneuvering at the helm. Six stainless steel fuel tanks support extended range for offshore passages. Bow and stern thrusters make close-quarters docking straightforward for a yacht of this size, and both thrusters run on dedicated battery banks that were replaced in Q2 2024. Engine hours and service logs are available upon request.
Electronics and Navigation
The electronics package was fully upgraded with an all-new Furuno suite, including eight multifunction displays and four new NavNet TZtouch 3 units. The system integrates GPS, radar, autopilot, VHF, AIS, and a camera interface, with WiFi connectivity built in. TV and internet dome antennas keep the boat connected at anchor or underway.
Electric and Comfort Systems
Onboard power is handled by two generators: a primary Cummins Onan 13.5kW unit (6,300 hours) that runs ship systems and the air conditioning, and a secondary Cummins Onan 5kW unit (121 hours) for ship power alone. Five air conditioning zones, four rated at 10,000 BTU and one 8,000 BTU unit serving the starboard crew berth, keep the interior comfortable in any climate. A 3,000W inverter and a transformer accepting both 230V and 240V shore power add flexibility for cruising abroad, backed by five Mastervolt battery chargers. Three stainless steel water tanks hold 110 gallons each, and liquid tank senders give accurate readings on fuel, water, and holding at a glance.
Galley, Salon, and Accommodations
The galley is built for real offshore cooking and entertaining, with Sahara Corian countertops and a full run of stainless steel appliances:
- Dishwasher
- Six Vitrofrigo fridge/freezer drawers
- Trash compactor
- Built-in coffee maker
- Built-in wine cooler at the salon settee
- Ocean Chef four-burner propane stovetop with oven
- GE convection/microwave oven with 12V fan
- Reverse-osmosis water with a secondary filter at the galley tap
The galley table folds out to a coffee table configuration, and a full-size washer with a separately vented dryer is tucked under the starboard crew bunk. Four cabins sleep the owners and crew comfortably, with a TV display in each forward cabin and satellite TV in the master. Entertainment continues throughout the salon with a Bose surround sound system (five speakers across the main salon, aft cabin, and forward and starboard cabins), Sirius XM radio, and interior carpet and cushion protection throughout to keep the space in showroom condition.
Deck and Cockpit
- Teak sole throughout with grey grout
- Two carbon fiber helm wheels
- Custom carbon fiber dinghy davits
- Bimini bows and supports upgraded to 1.25" stainless steel (standard is 1")
- New bimini canvas (Q4 2024) and dodger (Q2 2024)
- Cockpit table with built-in refrigerator
- Full set of canvas covers for windows, cockpit table, companionway door, helm stations, and winches
- Raised stainless steel lifelines for added safety at sea
- Boarding ladders port and starboard through lifeline gates
- Fusion stereo with six speakers across the cockpit areas
- Beach chairs and umbrellas included
The swim platform and davit system are set up to carry the 14' AB Hypalon center console tender with 40 HP Yamaha outboard (2023), giving Blue Star serious range for shore excursions and provisioning runs.
Sail Plan
Blue Star carries a carbon mast with in-boom furling, paired with a 100% staysail and genoa, both on hydraulic furling for easy short-handed sailing. Running backstays and a carbon pole support an asymmetrical spinnaker finished in blue with a red cardinal inlay. Nine winches, seven electric and two manual units at the mast, keep sail handling manageable even with a small crew. New halyards and headsail sheets round out an updated, offshore-ready rig.
Safety and Anchoring
Ground tackle is handled by a double anchor platform with a Maxwell windlass, a 125 lb Ultra primary anchor with 300 feet of chain, and a separate rode with a backup Fortress anchor. A Halon fire suppression system protects the engine room, and a removable carbon fiber passerelle simplifies stern-to docking. Safety gear includes an EPIRB and MOM9 man-overboard module, along with a full set of dock lines and fenders.
Summary
Blue Star combines the Hylas 63's proven bluewater pedigree with a recent round of meaningful upgrades, from new canvas and rigging to overhauled thruster batteries and a completely refreshed electronics suite. She is a turnkey cruiser for an owner who wants to head offshore now, not after a season of refit work. Serious inquiries are welcome through your broker or the listing agent.
