2006 Shannon 35'
Solomons Maryland United States
35'
The 35' Shanon Shoalsailer is quite a unique design. This is such a great Chesapeake or Bahama boat. The original owner enjoyed her in the Bahama's and her present owner has enjoyed the Chesapeake Bay. The owner has had her hauled out which will enable anyone interested to see her shoal draft design. Shannon's, Walt Schulz utilizes the hull shape over the depth of a keel for sailing ability. If you enjoy quiet weekends in hidden coves away from the crowds, this is the perfect sailboat. If you like to socialize, the large cockpit on the Shoalsailer will be the gathering spot for you and your friends. She gives you the best of both worlds.
IKONIC Yachts is pleased to assist you in the purchase of this vessel. This boat is centrally listed by Brewer Yacht Sales. It is offered as a convenience by this broker/dealer to its clients and is not intended to convey direct representation of a particular vessel
The conventional wisdom for the past century has been that the ability of a sailboat to sail in the general direction of the wind is predicated on the depth of the keel. The deeper the keel, the better the windward performance. The penalty for this improvement in sailing characteristics is the inability to sail the boat to weather in shallow water. The Shoalsailer is the first design, that achieves performance to weather by the shape of the hull rather than by the depth of the keel. Walt Schulz was able to make this breakthrough by using a state-of-the-art relational geometry computer design program. This program allows a designer to make changes in the hull sections, and then instantly calculates the effect on sailing performance. The Shoalsailer is a revolutionary breakthrough as it provides exhilarating sailing (especially to weather) while still drawing only 30".
We have a lengthy article that covers numerous questions on this design, sailing ability and construction of the Shannon Shoalsailer. Just ask and we will be happy to email you a copy.
The Shoalsailer is a beautiful place to spend a weekend or extended vacation. The interior styling is both modern and classic. Soft flowing curves are highlighted by Shanon's great woodworking. In spite of the 3-" draft, the Shoaldailer still offers full 6'5" headroom below. Her Wide Beam, which carries from her mid-ships all the way aft to her transom, provides accomodations and livability usually only found in large vessels. She features a tri-cabin layout with berths for six and the teak drop-leaf table in the main salon seats six in comfort. There are two private sleeping cabins, one located forward and one aft, both with privacy doors. Each cabin has cedar lined hanging lockers and drawer storage, overhead opening hatches, and the aft cabin has an opening port for excellent light and ventilation. Fold-away "Pullman" type berths port and starboard in the main salon are always neat, and conveniently convert for eating, lounging or comfortable sleeping.
She has lovely teak bulkheads with solid teak trim that is finished in a gloss varnish. Veneered teak and holly sole and tongue and groove overhead add to her charm below deck. 4" settee cushions, teak drop leaf table, multiple overhead opening hatches and 6'5" headroom gives her a bright, light and opening feeling below. Double V-berth with filler in the forward stateroom with 2 drawers under, hanging locker and privacy door. Aft and to starboard of the companionway is the aft cabin with double berth, hanging locker, and opening port. To port of the companionway is the large head with vanity, stainless steel sink with hot and cold pressure water, storage under and outboard. Manual toilet and bulkhead mounted shower and opening port for ventilation. Engine access is from under the companionway steps as well as from the head and aft cabin.
One of the primary features of the Shoalsailer is her incredibly large cockpit. As mentioned before, she carries her beam all the way aft which allows for a very wide cockpit. There is a centerline drop leaf table followed by the pivoting pedestal with all her electronics, instruments, and light switches. Dual helms are perfect for her wide cockpit. Throttle and gear shift along with the compass are found at both helms. She also has a walk-out transom to a built-in swim/boarding platform (or Sugar Scoop) with additional storage. She has a straight seat to port and an L-shaped seat to starboard. Nice wide decks with inboard shrouds makes going forward very easy. She has a unique bimini, with the aft portion being a hardtop and perfect for mounting solar panels, and the forward portion is canvas that can fold back on a beautiful day. No doubt, this cockpit is where one will spend most of their time, either sailing or sitting at anchor in a peaceful cove.
The owner has told me that the boat is very dry and handles the Chesapeake chop much better than other boats its size or even larger. You do NOT have to use the front window canvass that you see in other boats to stay dry. Thus you are not only dry but you have very clear vision of what is ahead.
She has a storage packed L-shaped galley with Corian counter tops, shelving outboard with sliding doors, drawers and cabinets under. Soft round corners greet you as you walk forward.
